Macon Councilman Calls for Immediate End to Gang Violence

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon City Councilman calls for an immediate end to gang violence around neighborhoods and schools.

Councilman Charles Jones held a press conference Friday afternoon at 1528 Stratford Circle, where Thursday night at around 3 a.m., one of the homeowners’ cars was shot at multiple times while parked in front of the home.

This isn’t the first time the family has been a victim of violence.  On May 30th, the same car was shot at around the same time of night.

Jones noted the close proximity of the home to Southwest High School and said the violence needs to be stopped now before someone in the home or the neighborhood ends up hurt.

“Anybody that does something like that is just plain, straight stupid,” says Jones.  “Or they think we’re stupid.  Let me tell you what that means.  If they think we’re going to stand by and let them do that, they’re stupid.  If we stand by and let them do it, we’re stupid.  So I’m asking stupid, ‘Who’s stupid?’  We’ve got to stand up and say, ‘This crap ain’t gonna happen.'”

Jones is putting up $500 of his own money to anyone with any information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators.

Sgt. Robert Martin with Macon Regional Crimestoppers says along with Jones’s donation, Crimestoppers will add at least another $200 to the reward for a total of $700.

If you have any information on the crimes, call Crimestoppers at 1-877-68-CRIME.
