“This is the theme we’ve been needing”: Macon community joins in prayer

“To love one another”

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – This year’s theme for Macon’s National Day of Prayer focuses on love.

“To love one another” is the theme.

The Macon community gathered at Rosa Parks Square to pray with one another as well as those across the nation.

“The love of Jesus is what we want to share. And those are his words, “love one another.” That’s what we do as believers,” National Day of Prayer attendee Nancy Kellum said.

She and others gathered at Rosa Parks Square to pray. Kellum says this year’s theme is exactly what we’ve been waiting for and just what the community needs.

“I think in everyone’s life, we have a story and we come with hurts and joys and sorrows. I think that divides us and separates us. Love One Another brings us together. Jesus was love. That’s who he is and will always be,” Kellum said.

Community Church of God’s Pastor Jason McClendon says we need to be more mindful of the choice of words we use towards each other.

“In our nation, right now, that is one thing that perpetuates the dissolvement of relationships. As a nation, one of the things that made us so strong is that we were unified together with one cause, one faith, one lord,” Pastor McClendon said.

He says change starts within us.

I believe that the bible says righteousness exalts a nation. And I believe people like you and me need to take accountability for the words that we say. And we can start with one small change. As individuals obeying in what we believe and living what we say,” he said.

Thursday morning in Macon, First Presbyterian Church held a National Day of Prayer breakfast.

Pastor McClendon says a lot of churches in Macon came out to help with Thursday’s event.
