Macon Committee Asks Bibb County to Put Filmore Thomas Recreation Area at Top of Spending List
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon council committee wants the Bibb County Commission to prioritize its recreation spending.
The appropriations committee Monday afternoon asked the commission to build the Filmore Thomas Recreation Center first when it starts spending penny tax funds.
The measure was sponsored by Councilman Ed DeFore and passed unanimously.
Defore told the committee the county’s children need more places to go for activities and said the recreation center is long overdue.
“I think there’s a sense in that neighborhood that there have been some broken promises,” says committee chairman, Tom Ellington. “So we want to do everything that we can to try to keep moving that process forward.”
The resolution also lists new rec centers in Lizella and the city’s sub south area as priorities, along with improvements to several city parks. Full council will vote on the item Tuesday night.
