Macon City Council Tours Parks and Recreation Centers

On Monday, members of Macon City Council got an inside look at the city’s recreation centers.

City Council President James Timley hopes the tour helps council members determine how much is fair to put towards the city’s parks and recreation and cultural arts.

The inspection included checking all basketball courts, every weight room and the swimming pools at each stop.

Macon City Council Member Louis Tompkins says, “We’re better able to make a sound decision by an inspection.”

However, the only way the facilities will see a face lift, is if voters pass the SPLOST.

“If they don’t pass it, this is not going to happen..there are some other things in the budget too that we will not get as well in capital if this SPLOST doesn’t pass,” says Timley.

City council members hope voters will agree.

“This recreation piece in the SPLOST is very important,” says Tompkins.

The vision for the SPLOST includes $42 million for parks and recreation and cultural arts.
