Macon City Council Member Vote Postponed

Macon City Council members chose Beverly Blake to fill the Ward 5, Post 3 seat left vacant by Erick Erickson.

Council members thought they’d be confirming their new member at the Macon City Council meeting on Tuesday, but a motion was passed to postpone the vote.

Councilman Henry Ficklin suggested waiting to vote, until Blake could appear in front of the council.

This idea didn’t sit well with other council members who say the ward lacks representation.

“I haven’t heard from a single council member that they don’t intend to support her which is why I think tonight’s action was unnecessary and frankly unfortunate for the citizens of ward 5 and the city,” said Macon City Council member Lauren Benedict.

Council members Lauren Benedict, Nancy White, and Tom Ellington all opposed the motion to postpone the vote.

Councilman Ficklin said, “I think that there is a process that we in government need to see that it is done. Just like in criminal law there is a due process and I think that in government there are processes in place and we need to follow them.”

Blake is out of town on a prior work commitment.
