Macon dentist participates in Halloween candy buy back

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Macon Smiles along with dentist offices across the US are making an effort to support the county’s troops.

Dr. Sheila Shah with Macon Smiles will pay $1 per pound for leftover Halloween candy.

Shah says the mission is to support US troops by shipping the candy to an organization called “Operation Shoe Box”.

The group takes the candy, makes care-packages, and sends them overseas to deployed troops.

“We usually collect nearly 100 pounds sometimes more than that,” Shah said. ”This year is a different year, there hasn’t been as much candy buying and certainly trick or treating is different. We wanted to keep this going.”

Shah says the last day is Thursday.  However, if you have candy you want to give past Thursday, call the Macon location.

This is Macon Smiles’s 12th year participating.
