MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The 6th annual Macon Burger Week is finally here! From Monday, November 13 through Sunday, November 19, 27 local restaurants will showcase original creations to be judged by Middle Georgians to see who will win best burger.

This week will be jam-packed with mouth-watering dishes freshly cooked for those who dare to try and taste them all!

The first of our stops this week is Cashman’s Pub on Cherry Street. Their entry, called “Brotherly Love,” features a beef brisket and short rib patty topped with chopped ribeye steak, grilled onions, grilled peppers, white American cheese and Boro sauce, all on a toasted bun. The burger’s name is a double reference to the city of Philadelphia and also a city closer to us.

“We did the burger thinking we should add Boro sauce to it, which is a special sauce that can only be found in Statesboro, and we just wanted to pay homage to something that we knew and love,” executive chef Reginald Perkins said. “And we love Macon now, this is where we’re at, and we felt that we should share it with Macon.”

Having never heard of Boro sauce before, 41NBC’s Draze Rozelle was intrigued. He says he wasn’t disappointed after trying the burger.

“It kind of reminds me a little bit of hibachi the way that they kind of season their beef at like a hibachi grill sort of deal,” he said. “It’s kind of got that nice tangy to it. I can definitely taste where the peppers are kicking in. It’s not anything strong, but it is really good. The cheese is nice. It’s exquisite.”

Overall, the burger captures the Philly cheesesteak taste while giving a unique flavor with the Boro sauce.
