Macon-Bibb’s Junior Commissioners begin orientation
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Who says politics isn’t for pre-teens? Macon-Bibb’s Junior Commissioners started their orientation on Tuesday.
The school year-long program will teach students leadership skills, the fundamentals of government on all levels, and allow them to visit every department of Macon-Bibb’s consolidated government.
Macon-Bibb’s Chris Floore says getting kids from 10th to 12th grade engaged in politics is important because many of them are the leaders of tomorrow.
“What we’re trying to do is outreach into our younger students so that they become interested in government and in improving their community. Our hope is that whenever they come back to us from college that they can make a difference in their neighborhoods and be apart of government.”
The Junior Commissioners will be officially sworn in at next Tuesday’s commission meeting. All Macon-Bibb residents are encouraged to attend.
