Supporters rally in Macon-Bibb for former President Trump after attempted assassination

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The nation is still reeling after the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump on Saturday.

In response, supporters of the former president are taking to the streets to show their solidarity.

David Sumrall, the chairman of the Bibb County GOP said the community is eager to show their support for the former president.

“We wanted to go all around Bibb County with a great big Trump hug, showing some Trump love,” Sumrall said on Monday.

Supporters traveled around Macon-Bibb County waving signs and flags, showing support for the former president and expressing their First Amendment rights.

“We want to show our support for him and say we’re not afraid to express our freedom of speech, freedom to assemble and freedom to participate in the political process,” a supporter said.

“My teenage son called me from work, and I about cried, and I said, is he OK?” another supporter said. “Shock, surprise, anger that this was happening, and just wondering whether he was going to be OK.”

As the investigation into the assassination attempt continues, authorities are still working to determine the shooter’s motive. Supporters in Macon-Bibb County are calling for a full and open investigation to uncover any security failures that may have contributed to the shooting that left one person dead and at least two others injured.
