Macon-Bibb celebrates National Arts and Humanities Month

A proclamation read at Macon Arts Alliance recognizes October’s observance and the contributions of local artists.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Macon-Bibb County is recognizing local artists and their contributions throughout October as part of National Arts and Humanities Month.

Mayor Lester Miller issued an official proclamation Thursday recognizing the month, with the Macon Arts Alliance serving as the site for the reading.

As Macon’s local arts agency, the Macon Arts Alliance supports artists across a wide range of disciplines. The organization is home to ceramics, pottery, paintings and glass work, and also works alongside filmmakers, musicians, writers and other creative professionals to keep Macon’s cultural identity alive.

Executive Director Julie Wilkerson said the month is a countywide celebration of the arts in all its forms.

“So today we’re celebrating October as National Arts and Humanities Month,” she said. “And Mayor Lester Miller has declared the month also for Macon-Bibb County. So we are just celebrating all things arts and culture in Macon-Bibb County.”

Throughout October, the observance will highlight not only artistic works themselves but also the cultural histories and personal backgrounds that inspire the artists who create them. Residents are encouraged to take time this month to explore and appreciate the arts in their local area.
