Macon-Bibb mayor to present FY 2016 budget
Under the consolidation charter, the county is required to have a balanced budget. The mayor must share his proposal to the board six weeks before the new fiscal year starts, which is July 1st.
Reichert isn’t sharing many details ahead of his presentation. He says we could see the complete removal of the former city’s millage rate. The government was only able to get rid of half of Macon’s property taxes last year.
Reichert also expects to implement the new pay scale. This means all employees, whether they were former city or county workers, will get equal pay.
“Yes, there is an additional cost that is associated with implementing the pay scale, but we think it is good because it treats all of our employees fairly and uniformly, so they get equal pay for equal work,” Reichert said.
The budget presentation is scheduled for Tuesday, May 12th at 1 p.m. inside the commission chambers at the Macon-Bibb Government Center.
