Reichert seeks re-election for Macon-Bibb Mayor

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County Mayor Robert Reichert says he’d like to keep Macon (making) progress.

The long-time mayor announced his plans for re-election Monday morning — a mission, he says, to finish what he started.

“This campaign is designed not just to get me re-elected, but also to continue our efforts to unite the community,” Reichert said.

He wants to move the community.

“I’m very proud of our record of success; everything from attracting employers that could literally locate anywhere in this hemisphere and they wanted to go and have chosen to come to Macon-Bibb County. There’s a reason for that,” Reichert reflected.

He doesn’t take credit for what he calls the “successes” of the county since he’s been in office, but he’s prideful of the increase in businesses, job growth, and development during his tenure.

“That’s something that I’m very, very excited about and very proud of,” he smiled.

Companies like Kumho Tire, Yulista Aviation, and YKK have branches in the city.

“Our greatest threat is to lose momentum and to be timid and afraid to fund our future,” Reichert warned.

While there are many pros, he also points out there’s room for improvement.

“Some of the commissioners say they don’t get information soon enough, they want to be more a part of the process. That’s certainly something I can work on to improve,” he said.

He explains he has goals, with the help of commissioners and other groups, to make a place where people can grow and want to stay….just like the jobs.

“We are building a community for tomorrow for our children and our grandchildren and those that will follow,” Reichert said.

Mayor Reichert has been in office since 2007. Election day in Macon-Bibb County is on May 24th.
