Macon-Bibb keeps “Age-Friendly” status

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb officials along with representatives from the AARP say they want anyone, young or old, to visit the county’s parks.

Macon-Bibb will keep its “age-friendly” community status for another three years.  A group met this morning to acknowledge the designation.

In 2012, the AARP recommended 16 points that would enhance the park experience after being named the nation’s first “age-friendly” community.

Karen Cooper with AARP says the amount of work and dollars put into the look of the park, makes it better all around for everyone who wants to enjoy it.

“Open space in communities, green space in communities, is important for all ages because you need some type of outdoor space so that you can have exercise. Whether it’s walking, or getting out and enjoying the community by sitting at a park bench and reading a book,” Cooper said.

Cooper says the goal is to turn Tattnall Square Park into the model for age-friendly parks everywhere.
