Macon-Bibb, Francar’s partner to bring restaurant to golf course

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – There’s a new place you can eat if you’re driving some golf balls at Bowden Golf Club in Macon.

Francar’s has moved into the clubhouse with a full menu of food and its specialty–wings.

After a long 18 holes, it’d be nice to sit down and have a meal.

Carl Fambro hopes you’ll do that.

“We can a run a kitchen that cooks, not just making sandwiches and cold cuts,” said Fambro.

Fambro owns the newest addition to the Bowden Golf Course–Francar’s at Bowden.

“We can do a lot of wings at the end of the day for golfers, and we do a lot of wings for people who come in from the community,” said Fambro.

It’s open to everyone, and it has the same Francar’s menu that made the Mercer Village location successful.

“A lot of these folks come from here to Linden Avenue, so now they can just come here,” said Fambro.

But before the sauce hit the chicken, Fambro needed some changes to the building.

“My idea was if you upgrade it a little bit, it could be a nice place,” said Fambro.

That’s where Macon-Bibb helped him out.

“We’re looking to provide competitive opportunities for local business owners to you know come in and you know provide for us those goods and services that they have,” said Dr. James Louis-Bumpus.

Louis-Bumpus is the director of the Office of Small Business Affairs for Macon-Bibb.

Macon-Bibb paid for some of the cooking equipment and fixing the building up.

“It was a win-win,” said Louis-Bumpus. “A win for us in that we would have restaurant services provided here at the golf course, but also for small business in the community, to provide a minority business owner to expand his business from one location to two.”

“We did half on the actual cooking equipment but the other stuff like water heater, the roof they fixed, the city did that,” said Fambro.

Fambro couldn’t have done it without the Office of Small Business Affairs.

“I think Carl has built a wonderful clientele over the years, he provides a great product,” said Louis-Bumpus.

Owner Carl Fambro is excited to expand into a new part of town after finding success at his Mercer Village location.

Louis-Bumpus says the county knew Fambro was a capable businessman and would benefit the golf course.

Fambro says he knows with the county’s backing, his latest business endeavor can’t fail.
