Macon-Bibb firefighters working to put out fire off Shurling Drive
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb firefighters are still trying to put out a fire off Shurling Drive.
Macon-Bibb County’s Twitter account tweeted “all lanes of Shurling Dr between Eastview Ave & Walnut Creek Rd are closed as FD responds to a fire” at 4: 17 p.m.
Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies who were rerouting traffic on Eastview Avenue told 41NBC fire trucks were at the storage unit next to Appling Middle School. There was smoke coming from behind the bleachers of the stadium next to the school. The deputies also said they had been rerouting traffic since around 3 p.m. Deputies opened the road back up around 5:30 p.m.
A county spokesperson, Chris Floore, said the road needed to be blocked off because the fire department needed to run the hoses across the street. There wasn’t an accident or damage to the road itself.
Check back with 41NBC later in the evening for more updates on this story.
