Macon Bibb EMA asks for community input in pre-disaster plan

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb Emergency Management Agency is working on its pre-disaster mitigation plan.

It helps officials identify major problems people in the community experience during disasters. The current plan helped EMA identify homes that were constantly flooding. That triggered a state funding source that gave the county money to buy properties and change them into greenspaces.

EMA workers need your input to develop a plan that addresses these issues.

“If there’s places that have flooded in the past and are in some sort of insurance plan, we need to maybe not move those places, tear them down, or rebuild around them so they’re not going to flood again,” explained Macon-Bibb EMA Director Donald Druitt.

The state requires the plan to be updated every five years to be eligible for post-disaster financial reimbursement. An updated plan should be ready next spring.
