Macon-Bibb election supervisor: Some early voters got wrong ballots, but problem is now fixed

Some early voters in Macon-Bibb received incorrect ballots reflecting outdated district lines.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Some early voters in Macon-Bibb County received incorrect ballots reflecting outdated district lines.

Election Supervisor Tom Gillon says the issue affected voters in Commission Districts Six and Nine. Gillon says the error was discovered and corrected, but acknowledged the importance of vigilance moving forward.

“We’ve figured that out, and we’ve updated the system, so hopefully that’s behind us,” he said. “But we’re still trying to take good care to make sure everything and everyone is where they need to be.”

The mistake happened during the first implementation of new district lines following the 2020 census. Gillon says the error was limited to early voting.

“The voters do know who their representatives are and which districts they live in,” he said. “It’s in their best interest, but it also helps us if there is an error that they can notice it and help us to fix it.”

The Macon-Bibb County Board of Elections Office continues to review ballots to ensure all issues are resolved before election day on Tuesday, May 21. Early voting ends Friday May, 17.
