Macon-Bibb County to celebrate Earth Day with free family event at Amerson River Park
Community-wide Earth Day celebration returns April 19 with live music, giveaways, kids' activities, and environmental awards

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- Macon-Bibb County will host its 15th annual Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 19, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Amerson River Park (2551 Pierce Drive North). This year’s theme is “Our Power, Our Planet,” emphasizing the community’s collective ability to create a more sustainable future.
The Macon-Bibb Earth Day celebration is a free, family-friendly event open to all ages. It will feature live music, educational exhibitors, giveaways, a wellness zone, a bicycle raffle, and school nutrition displays. Children can participate in activities to earn stamps on their Earth Day passport, which they can redeem for a free Earth Day t-shirt.
“We are so excited to again have a fun and educational Earth Day celebration for our entire community,” said Earth Day Committee Chair Sam Kitchens. “Amerson River Park is an amazing location for this annual event because it really brings people close to nature, so we’re inviting your entire family to learn how we can all conserve and protect our planet for generations to come!”
Collaboration Across the Community
A highlight of the event will be the presentation of a record six Champion Awards, recognizing individuals and organizations making a difference because of their contribution to a greener Macon-Bibb. There will also be awards given out to people and organizations in the areas of community, preservation, sustainability/environment, education, nonprofit, and more.
The Earth Day Committee—composed of representatives from Macon-Bibb County, the Green Team, the Bibb County School District, Keep Macon-Bibb Beautiful, Bike Walk Macon, Museum of Arts & Sciences, and many others—has been instrumental in organizing the celebration.
“We love coming together each year to plan this event because we get to help build a more sustainable community together,” said Kitchens.
More than 40 local organizations and sponsors —such as Georgia Power, Bike Walk Macon, and Atrium Health Navicent— will participate in the event, offering resources, educational materials, and free giveaways to support environmentally conscious living.
