MACON, Georgia (41NBC WMGT ) – Macon-Bibb County is remembering the life and legacy of former Macon City Councilor Pastor Charles Jones, who served on city council for more than 10 years.

He died earlier this month.

Plant Street, home to his church, Greater Rising Star Full Gospel Tabernacle, is dedicated to him. Macon-Bibb County honored his life and legacy to remember all he’s done with cleaning up crime and so much more in Macon.

Macon-Bibb Commissioner Paul Bronson remembers Jones’ favorite saying: “Being ‘down with dope, up with hope,'” and he plans to continue his work.

“His focal point was really focusing on the youth,” Bronson said. “Acknowledging and going to the drug dealers and the gang leaders and saying, ‘Hey this isn’t the place. We’re moving things into another direction,’ and at the same time for us as an administration providing those avenues for those kids to know there is another way of doing business, another way of making money, being successful. We want to provide them those opportunities so us as an administration, we want to take the work he has done and build upon that.”

The dedicated street is between Mercer University Drive and Jeff Davis Street.
