EPA talks brownfields development at Macon-Bibb meeting
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County is looking to see if there are any places in the county that have the potential for development, but could be contaminated.
The Environment Protection Agency did a presentation to let residents know what a brownfield is and hear what areas they want to see reviewed. The county has a grant to pay for these reviews. A brownfield is a site that could be contaminated, like an abandoned gas station, according to EPA representatives.
“This money is to look at those kind of sites and just see. Maybe nothing happened. Maybe there was no leaking, underground storage tank and you can just remove that tank or close it in place and build a restaurant at that old gas station site,” said Margaret Olson from the EPA.
The county could hold more informational meetings depending on the feedback received Tuesday.
