Macon-Bibb County Health Department offering free mammograms this month
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – October is breast cancer awareness month and the Macon-Bibb County Health Department is using it as an opportunity to promote women’s health.
They’re offering free mammograms for women every Friday this month from 9 am to 12 pm .
North Central Health District Public Information Officer Michael Hokanson says they want to emphasize why getting checked regularly is so important.
“Breast cancer like all cancers, the rate of survival is much greater with early detection. That’s why we want to push these early detection services so women are aware that they do have these services available not just through us but through other health care providers,” he told 41NBC.
More than an estimated 200,000 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
If you’re interested in getting a free mammogram you can head over to the Macon-Bibb County Health Department located off of Emery Highway.
