Macon-Bibb County Firefighters Investigating Arson and Burglary at Macon Symphony Orchestra

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department is investigating three fires that were set at the Macon Symphony Orchestra Building on New Years Day.

According to Macon-Bibb Fire Sergeant Ben Gleaton, around 2:51 am on January 1st, the department was called to 400 Poplar Street by the Mercer Police Department.

Mercer Police were responding to a burglary alarm at the building. On the second floor of the building, a sprinkler head had been activated. Gleaton says three fires were started on that floor which is home to Mercer offices.

The bottom floor, which is where the Macon Symphony Orchestra is located, was flooded. There was no structural damage to the building by the fires.

Gleaton says there were some items missing from the building. The incident is being investigated as arson and burglary.

Anyone with information can call the Arson Control Line at 1-800-282-5804. There is a reward up to $10,000 for anyone with information on the fire.
