Macon-Bibb County Fire Department welcomes 19 new firefighters
It was a very emotional day as families pinned the graduates after receiving their certification marking a milestone in their career and in their lives.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County Fire Department welcomed 19 new firefighters into the ranks as they celebrated with a graduation ceremony for their Winter 2025 Recruit Class at Central Georgia Technical College Auditorium on Friday.
It was a very emotional day as families pinned the graduates after receiving their certification marking a milestone in their career and in their lives.
A few of graduates who made an impact was valedictorian Robert Atwell, De’Ambra Davis, who was the only female of the class and will serve at as she puts it, the best of the best, Fire Station 10 and Carlios Flowers, Jr. who walked in his grandfather’s footsteps, Earl Cornelius, who retired from the department in May of 2015, Flowers will be serving at Station 14.

“Awesome, awesome. I actually did it, that’s what’s running through my mind,” said Flowers. “I actually did it, I actually really took the time and really did it and it’s unexplainable, unexplainable.”
“Find something in life to do that can help the community, to help better the community, to help understand, that you got siblings and loved ones that’s looking after you as well,” said Flowers.

“Even if it’s not being a firefighter. If you find something that you want to do, do it,” said Davis. “You might not have nobody to encourage you. Be your own motivation. People will see what you’re doing and how hard you are motivating yourself and they will run to be in your corner. Just whatever you got set in your mind, do it and if you do want to be a firefighter, please do it.”
Each Firefighter took the oath of office and was sworn in by Macon-Bibb County Fire Chief Shane Edwards, and will officially start their new journey next week.
