Lt. Jeremy Webb, Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, says it is important to wear eye protection and gloves if you plan on using fireworks or sparklers.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — Fourth of July celebrations are underway across Middle Georgia and the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department is urging people to use caution when using fireworks and sparklers.

Lt. Jeremy Webb, Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, says it is important to wear eye protection and gloves if you plan on using fireworks or sparklers.

In addition, it is also important to have a water supply nearby in case of emergency. Webb encourages people to shoot fireworks in an open area, and avoid wooded or dry areas.

Webb says people need to brace the fireworks and put them on a flat surface so they don’t fall over.

For pet owners, you also need to take caution on the Fourth of July. Webb encourages pet owners to put their animals indoors and be mindful of the loud noises from fireworks.

Webb also says fireworks should only be used by those who are sober and 18-years-old or older.
