MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb County Fire Department received a snapshot of its history on Monday.

Sandra Aronson says her late parents had kept pictures of the Macon Fire Department’s first apparatus truck, taken in 1910, before and after it crashed on its first run. She donated those pictures to the department in a ceremony in memory of her parents, and her longtime friend and former captain Jimmy McCallum, who died in June.

“Mother looked up the history and passed that along to us,” Aronson said. “And I think that someone else needs to enjoy it now. Mommy and daddy are gone, and they would be very happy that we are sharing.”

According to the department, firefighters Charles McCrary, J.E. Buffington, and Lee Roberts all died from injuries sustained during the accident. The driver, Dolly Feagin, lost control of the engine when the right tire blew out, causing the engine to collide with a telegraph pole and overturn.

Fire Chief Shane Edwards says the photos will be given to the Macon Firemen’s Credit Union.
