MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon–Bibb County Fire Department held a promotion ceremony Friday, for 28 of its firefighters.
Three firefighters were promoted to Captain, six were promoted to Lieutenant, and 19 to Sergeant. Fire Chief Shane Edwards says this group of firemen and women have committed their lives to the job and community.
“It’s been a long time coming. our candidates today went through a promotional testing system over the last couple months”, said Chief Edwards. “They got their scores back, and once they came back, we sat down and started making selections.”
Chief Edwards says the firefighters go above and beyond each day to serve their community.
“It’s just one of the things we do to give back to our firefighters. But, also making sure we have leadership in place and those officers in place, making those strategic decisions on every response call we respond to, and making sure our stations equipment is where it needs to be,” he said.
Christopher Higdon was promoted to Captain during the ceremony, and spoke about his excitement on the next step in his career.
“Been waiting on this for a while. We tested over two years ago so it’s been a long wait, but very excited,” said Captain Higdon. “Huge responsibility so I’m a little nervous, but I think I’m up for the challenging.”
Captain Higdon shared what he wants to accomplish next.
“Just continue to grow in my knowledge of the job. And I will continue to educate myself and just grow as an officer and as a leader, and still as a firefighter,” he said.
Chief Edwards says the firefighters will start their new positions soon.
