Bibb County fire Chief Shane Edwards says the new additions are strengthening the department’s ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies across Macon-Bibb county.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon-Bibb County Fire department officially welcomed eight new fire engines into service during a traditional push-in ceremony on Tuesday.
The new engines will be placed into service at stations 5, 7, 8, 9, 14, 15, 17 and 18.
Fire Chief Shane Edwards says the trucks are strengthening the department’s ability to respond faster and more effectively to emergencies across Macon-Bibb county.
“The new apparatus represents significant investment in the safety of our community, and in the men and women on this department who serve,” he said. “They are equipped with the modern tools and technology that would help our firefighters perform their daily duties more safely and definitely effectively.”
The push-in ceremony dates back to horse-drawn fire equipment, whenfirefighters had to physically push their trucks back into the station after returning from a call.
According to Macon-Bibb County, the eight fire engines cost approximately $6 million total and were made possible through Special Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST).
