Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency prepares for winter storm
"If you don't need to be on the roads, then don't,” said Spencer Hawkins, Director for the Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency leaders say they have been preparing for the severe winter storm with other community partners for the past three days.
Various colleges, schools and business have announced they are closing their doors tomorrow following a State of Emergency declaration from Georgia Governor Brian Kemp. Spencer Hawkins, Director for the Macon-Bibb County Emergency Management Agency, says Middle Georgia may see a wintry mix that could include snow, sleet, freezing rain or just regular liquid rain.
“If you don’t need to be on the roads, then don’t,” said Hawkins. “Our public works department is going to be working overnight shifts over the next two days to ensure that if salt or brining operations needs to happen primarily on those bridges and overpasses that they’ll get that taken care of and that they’ll be ready to clear roads in case we do see any branches or trees come down.”
Hawkins also says if you do need to be on the roads, allow yourself extra time to take it slow and be safe, bring your pets indoors, and don’t sleep with space heaters on.
