Macon-Bibb County American Red Cross Training

MACON, Georgia (41 NBC/WMGT) – This past week has shown how crucial and important it is to have emergency response teams ready at all times. In Macon, the Emergency Management Agency welcomed The American Red Cross Saturday.

Timing is everything. How quickly emergency response teams handle situations is crucial.

The Macon – Bibb County Emergencey Management Agency hosted the American Red Cross Saturday who trained for Shelter Training.

The program specifies types of locations that can be used in case of large scale emergencies. It also indicates positions and necessary posts in case of disaster.

Donna Lee is The American Red Cross Emergency Services Assistant Program Manager. She taught the session and explained how important Macon is in case of a regional disaster.

“We would probably because of the major highways that come into Macon from all different areas we would be a sheltering hub for this state”

The unfortunate problem is that the local area needs more volunteers…more bodies. According to Lee other cities assist the area when emergencies strike and she needs all the help she can get.

“We just need a team of volunteers, local volunteers to respond to local needs, these are people that would go out in response to a single family house fire or even to a multi family house fire to meet the needs of those people, put a roof over their head, food in their belly, clothes on their back,” Lee said.  “to be able to bring that hope through the American Red Cross to these people make sure that their local emergency needs are met.”

You can volunteer by attending the next American Red Cross training session this Thursday April 25 at 6 PM at the American Red Cross Central Georgia Chapter.
