Macon-Bibb community pools open for the summer
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Summer break has started for many students and their hoping to hang out at the pool.
With the addition of a dozen more lifeguards, all four community pools in Macon-Bibb County opened Friday afternoon.
“We’re now able to open our pools, Tuesday through Friday, from 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.and on Saturdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m,” says Reginald Moore, Director of Parks and Recreation.
Bloomfield Community Center rolled out the red carpet to welcome swimmers for the first day. Some of the same rules apply. There is no running, no horseplaying, and no diving.
Moore also says it’s important to have these lifeguards on standby when people are in the pool.
“With the help of those five lifeguards, they’re here to control and monitor our rules and regulations and make sure everybody abide by the rules and regulations,” he continues.
From a lifeguard perspective, head lifeguard, Sandy says while she’s watching everyone in the pool, parents can also help save lives.
“I would love for the parents to help us. If you’ll watch your kids, I’ll be watching your kids and more, ” says Sandy Tarpley.
Sonja Stewart took her kids to the pool. She says she always keep an eye on the kids because accidents can happen.
“I don’t just watch mines, I watch all the kids and see whose not doing what they’re suppose to do and I try to redirect them and into what they’re suppose to be doing,” Stewart adds.
The cost to get in the pools is $1 with an additional $1 to use the slide at the East Macon Community Center.
