Macon-Bibb commissioners to consider budget revision

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb commissioners will vote on a budget revision next month.

The Operations and Finance Committee heard information from budget experts Tuesday morning. County leaders said there were more retirements than expected which reduced the amount of money the county will need to give out. There was also a change in the amount of money the county will bring in.

“A reduction in our expectations on the sales tax from our projections in June, a reduction in the mil rate real property tax collection because now we have that better number means that we’re reducing our revenues by $2.9 million,” explained Julie Moore with Macon-Bibb Budget and Strategic Planning.

Moore said the county won’t be losing money because of the additional retirements. The original budget was around $147 million and these reductions will save bring the new budget to roughly $144 million.
