Macon-Bibb Commissioners approve $18M for park renovations

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Eighteen million dollars will go toward five park renovations across the county.

Commissioner Elaine Lucas told 41NBC commissioners approved more than seven-million dollars for the Sub-South Park and more than four-million dollars for Central City Park.  The Frank Johnson, Rosa Jackson, and Memorial Park Community Centers are also getting upgrades.  Improvements include expansions, tennis courts, ball parks, and swimming pools.

We’re told each master plan is flexible.  Commissioners will get to choose which items they want to build first with the money they have available.

Commissioners are also getting a million dollars each to tackle blight in their districts.  They passed an ordinance to adopt a nine-million dollar budget for the Blight Remediation Bond Funds. Each board member will use their share of the money for the blight in their district. They can also use it to help another commissioner’s district or put the money back into the Blight Remediation Fund.
