Macon-Bibb Commission Candidate Admits Marijuana-Related Arrest
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A candidate for the District 3 seat on the consolidated Macon-Bibb County government was arrested and charged with marijuana possession in January.
Danny Glover confirmed the arrest to 41NBC in an interview on Friday.
A report from the Jones County Sheriff’s Office says just after 10 p.m. on Jan. 23, Deputy Calvin Miller came in contact with Glover and another man, Darrion Garrett of Memphis, sleeping inside Glover’s vehicle at Griswoldville Industrial Park.
Miller noticed what he knew to be a marijuana grinder in the vehicle and conducted a search, which turned up “multiple baggies of residue” under the seat. The grinder had a “leafy residue in it” and a cup in the center console had a “smoke blunt with a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana.”
Both Glover and Garrett were arrested and taken to the Jones County LEC. Glover was charged with possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and also suspended vehicle registration.
Glover says he and Garrett had been drinking downtown and were on their way to Sparta. He says they decided to pull over and sleep because they had had too much to drink.
Glover told us he was under the influence of alcohol that night but that he hadn’t smoked marijuana.
The 25-year-old is up against Elaine Lucas in the running for the District 3 seat and says he has no plans of dropping out of the race.
