Macon-Bibb code enforcement officer charged with violating oath of office

The sheriff’s office said Christopher Tyler Willcox was taken into custody just before 4:30 p.m. September 22 and transported to Investigations Headquarters.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — A Macon-Bibb County code enforcement officer was arrested Monday in connection with a violation of oath of office investigation, according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office said Christopher Tyler Willcox was taken into custody just before 4:30 p.m. September 22 and transported to Investigations Headquarters. Investigators determined Willcox violated his oath of office during a traffic stop conducted earlier this month.

On September 11, Willcox initiated a traffic stop on Hawkinsville Road during his tour of duty. During the stop, deputies said he obtained the motorist’s phone and returned to his vehicle to verify credentials and registration. After giving the phone back and ending the stop, the motorist later discovered that Willcox had sent images from her phone to his own.

Willcox, who was employed by Macon-Bibb Code Enforcement, was charged with violation of oath by a public officer and transported to the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. He is being held without bond.

The investigation remains active, the sheriff’s office said.
