Macon-Bibb Co. Consolidation Task Force Creates Committees For Transition

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon and Bibb County are one step closer to transitioning into consolidation.

The Macon-Bibb County Consolidation Transition Task Force met on Tuesday to figure out which leaders will sit on the committees that will work out the details.

“You know what their expertise are by the virtue of their positions that they hold in the community,” chair Representative Nikki Randall said. “They’ll probably be assigned very closely with the expertise that they bring to the table.”

The task force divided up the work into five committees: finance, facilities, technology, human resources, and laws. Each committee will play an important role in merging the two governments.

“These are going to be the individual working groups that will make decisions and bring them back and give explanations as to the recommendation to the full transition task force other wise we would never be able to get anything done,” Macon Mayor Robert Reichert said.

Most members will serve on two committees. Co-chairs Representative Randall and Senator Cecil Staton, along with Mayor Reichert and Bibb County Chairman Sam Hart will oversee all the committees.

Now that the committees are in place, the task force can start figuring out what needs to be done as we move towards making consolidation a reality.
