Macon-Bibb citizens vote “Yes” on ESPLOST
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT)- On November 3, 2015, citizens in Macon-Bibb voted to extend ESPLOST.
That is the 1-penny sales tax used to fund education in Macon-Bibb County.
Yesterday, Bibb Schools Superintendent Dr. Curtis Jones explained what projects the ESPLOST would fund if it passes. The projects are listed below:
- New facility for Northeast High and Appling Middle Technology Improvements
- Playground Equipment for Elementary Schools
- Security Improvements
- Gym Air Conditioning
- High School Auditoriums
- School Renovations
- Transportation/Campus Police Facility
- Athletic Improvements
- Surplus Property Blight
- Land/Property Acquisition
- Charter School Projects
Now that the ESPLOST is approved, the Bibb County Board of Education will appoint a citizens ESPLOST Oversight committtte to assess and verify the projects.
