Macon-Bibb animal welfare urging pet adoptions

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Several dozen dogs at the Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare Center need a home.

Volunteers are encouraging residents to adopt, as the welfare center prepares to move to its new building on Fulton Mill Road. Staffers are encouraging you to come down and visit some of the animals and hopefully go home with a furry friend.

“We make sure that they have all of their vaccines. They’ve been wormed. They’ve been health checked basically. If they want like heartworm tests that has to come out of their pocket,” Olga Nunez, one of the kennel staffers at the welfare center, said.

Animals at the shelter will be pardoned, meaning they won’t be put down, until they find a new home. Advocates say after the move, they’ll keep the building on 11th Street open until all the pets are gone.

During the pardon period, pet adoptions are $80 including the refundable $50 spay/neuter fee and a $10 animal license.

It’s $70 for people who don’t live in county.
