Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare over capacity; needs help finding pet homes
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare still needs help finding homes for several dogs and cats. After taking more than 70 dogs from Friday’s animal cruelty arrest, the shelter is over capacity. Tracey Belew with Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare says most of the animals from the case found homes thanks to several animal rescue groups stepping in to help.
“We were able to get 65 animals out Friday night. We stayed here ’til midnight just trying to get them out so we wouldn’t have to euthanize anybody and it really worked. The community came together, the rescue groups. We were able to pull together and get them out,” Belew said.
She says even after Friday’s pet adoptions, the shelter still needs to find homes for other animals. Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare lowered their adoption fees.
It costs $50 to get your pet spay and neuter and there’s a $10 license fee if you in Bibb County.

41NBC has found out Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare has received a sponsor for the remaining animals. This means the adoption fees, which are normally $100, have been paid. We’re told there are about eight dogs still in need of homes.
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies arrested a kennel owner after 74 small dogs were removed for inhumane conditions, prolonged suffering, unsanitary conditions, and improper housing.
According to the sheriff’s office, the owner of Rock Ridge Kennels on 6875 Colaparchee Road, 73-year-old Pam Daniel, was arrested and charged with 74 counts of animal cruelty.
The condition of the dogs will be reassessed by a veterinarian at the Macon-Bibb Animal Shelter. The dogs cannot be adopted while the investigation is on-going.
A “temporary stay” has been granted to the shelter by the Georgia Department of Agriculture, so that the shelter can operate over capacity while homes are found for the dogs.
The shelter is over capacity by 135 animals.
The public is urged to visit the animal shelter and adopt or foster available animals. You can contact the Macon-Bibb Animal Welfare Office at 478-621-6791.
