MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Wednesday marks 23 years since the tragic events of September 11th, 2001, when terrorist attacks shook the nation. In a solemn ceremony held at the Public Safety Memorial Park in downtown Macon, the Macon-Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation organized its annual “9/11 Remembrance Ceremony” to pay tribute to the nearly 3,000 lives lost and honor the heroic efforts of first responders.

The community gathered to remember those who died in the attacks and to express gratitude for the firefighters, police officers and emergency personnel who risked their lives to save others. Macon-Bibb Fire Chief Shane Edwards spoke passionately about the bravery of the first responders on that fateful day, urging the community never to forget their sacrifices.

“We’re here to serve you,” he said. “We’re here to protect you. We will always be there, and so if you ever need anything at all, all you got to do is reach out.”

As part of the ceremony, a wreath was placed at the memorial to honor those lost in the attacks and to recognize the service and bravery of public safety officers, both past and present.
