Macon-Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation holds 9/11 remembrance ceremony
The remembrance included lowering the flag, prayers and flowers to honor the victims and first responders of the September 11 attacks.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) — The Macon-Bibb Law Enforcement Foundation honored the victims of the September 11 attacks and the bravery of first responders during its annual remembrance ceremony. The American flag was lowered to half-staff as family, friends and law enforcement prayed and laid flowers for those who lost their lives.
Sheriff David Davis says hosting the ceremony each year helps families with the grieving process and constantly reminds them their loved ones are never forgotten.
“Ceremonies like this help keep us focused, help keep our eyes on what’s the most important thing,” Davis said. “And that is community that is backing public safety, that is looking over all our differences and trying to find out commonalities.”
Davis says the event also honors local heroes who lost their lives.
“And also, to keep our focus on being community and being there for each other,” Davis said.
He says the ceremony shows residents that the community still cares.
“And we still care about those who have fallen both in our community or wherever throughout this nation,” Davis said. “But those folks that are here locally that are still grieving because of their loved ones that they have lost, shows that we still care and we still remember.”
Local resident Julia Harden attends the 9/11 event every year. She says her father died May 11, 1987, in an accident on the bridge off Shurlington Drive, and law enforcement means a great deal to her and her family.
“So, when 9/11 comes by it always brings back memories of how the lives of people will change because of hatred in the world,” Harden said. “But I’ll always have good memories in my heart.”
