Macon Bar Association holds annual Law Day Luncheon

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The Macon Bar Association (MBA) held its annual Law Day Luncheon at the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame this afternoon.

The luncheon was attended by lawyers and judges as well as their guests, and they applauded as several awards were given out to colleagues and citizens alike.

Among the honors given was the William A. Bootle Professionalism Award, and the Macon Bar Association Lawyer of the Year Award.

Others were recognized as having excelled in avenues of civil and community service.

“As lawyers, we should give back,” said MBA president Ira Foster. “We’re blessed to have our law degrees and we’re blessed to help individuals in the community, so we should do more than just represent clients, and we should do more than just try to make money.”

“We should try to make our communities a better place,” Foster continued.

Law Day has been a yearly commemoration since 1957, with its official mark on the calendar being May 1st.

This year’s theme was “Miranda:  More than Words,” celebrating the 50th anniversary of the institution of the Miranda warning, which affords suspects the right to remain silent and the right to legal representation.
