MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Dozens of subcontractors and suppliers gathered at the Macon Centreplex on Tuesday morning for an information session about the new Macon Arena project.
Organized by Barton Malow + Sheridan, the session aimed to brief attendees on the project’s timeline, trade bid opportunities and the significant role local small businesses will play in the construction process.
Project leaders discussed details about the arena’s schedule, with groundbreaking expected to begin this summer and completion targeted for 2028. The arena is set to exceed 230,000 square feet, featuring more than 8,000 seats and 800 parking spaces. Its flexible design will allow the venue to host a wide range of sports and entertainment events, positioning it as a major addition to the region’s event landscape.
Charise Merriweather, executive director of the Macon-Bibb County Office of Small Business Affairs, emphasized the importance of connecting local small businesses with larger partners on this landmark project.
“We’re trying to do outreach to small business. We’ll let them know you could be part of this wonderful movement that’s happening here in Macon,” she said.
The event provided subcontractors and suppliers with networking opportunities and detailed information on how to participate in the bidding process.
With groundbreaking just months away, excitement is building for a project expected to transform the local entertainment scene and create new opportunities for area businesses.
David Aiello, district general manager at Oak View Group, said, “It’ll be part of the gateway into the city. You’ll see it coming off of 16 and I -75 and it’s just really going to be able to continue to track people to come to Macon from all over the southeast, and that’s what we’re looking to do.”
