Macon Area Habitat for Humanity kicks off 2024 Light More Homes Christmas fundraiser
Donations will help Macon Area Habitat for Humanity and local sponsors build homes for low-income families in Macon-Bibb and Jones counties and help provide relief to victims of Hurricane Helene.

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – Macon Area Habitat for Humanity started its 17th annual Light More Homes Christmas celebration on Tuesday. QR codes are featuring among the display in Mercer Village and Stadium Drive, which visitors can use to scan and donate.
“I hope people will be sure to look for those opportunities around the light display,” said Ivey Hall, the Executive Director of Macon Area Habitat for Humanity.
Hall says donations will help Macon Area Habitat for Humanity and local sponsors build homes for low-income families in Macon-Bibb and Jones counties. This year, a second QR code will be included for another cause impacting Middle Georgians.
“That will allow visitors to contribute to Habitat’s long term recovery efforts for so many areas that were affected by hurricanes this fall,” Hall said.
Chuck Hammock began Light More Homes in 2008 and now serves as a board member for Macon Area Habitat for Humanity. He says he’s proud of the growth the event has seen over the years and the impact it has made.
“Over the years we’ve been able to raise several hundred thousand dollars and have been able to build multiple houses,” Hammock said.
2024 is the event’s fifth year on Mercer’s campus. Hammock says Mercer students tend to make up the majority of volunteers, and they benefit from it as well.
“It provides them the opportunity for community service,” Hammock said. “And it adds a bit of cheer here to the western edge of campus.”
Hall says the display provides the opportunity for everyone to come out and have fun, take pictures, and make memories, all while supporting a good cause.
“We hope more people will come and experience Light More Homes and help us light more homes so that more people have safe, decent and affordable housing for next year,” Hall said.
The lights in Mercer Village will be on from 6-10 p.m. each day through January.
