Macon Airport Plane Crash Victims In Stable Condition

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – The student pilot and teacher are now listed in stable condition after their plane crashed at the Herbert Smart Airport in Macon Wednesday afternoon.

That is according to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Previously, 55-year-old Dr. Guy Foulkes of Macon, and the student, 49-year-old Kelly Hague of Macon, were initially listed in critical condition at the Georgia Medical Center.

According to airport staff, the single engine plane was conducting “touch-and-go” training.

The plane took off from the runway and attempted to make a right turn.

Airport staff stated the pilot experienced a wind shift, which resulted in the plane crashing down.

Macon-Bibb Firefighters rescued the crew.

Both were immediately transported to the hospital.

An eyewitness, who is also a flight instructor, said he thought a “wind sheer” caused the crash.

He said pilots should always be aware of the possibility of changing winds, and even an experienced pilot like Foulkes could not have saved the plane.

The National Transportation Safety Board is currently investigating the crash.
