Lucas Wants Debate With Paris Before Run-Off Election

Both candidates for Senate District 26 have very different opinions of how the last view days of this race should run. David Lucas wants to battle it out in a one-on-one debate, but Miriam Paris is holding back saying she wants to keep the drama out of the final stretch, and focus on constituents.

“I’m really just not interested in being distracted with sitting up in a room arguing with my opponent,” says Paris.

David Lucas isn’t satisfied, that he and Paris have yet to square off face-to-face since before the primary election.

“I was told the young lady refused to debate David Lucas, and I think you all know why, because she doesn’t know the issues,” says Lucas.

For him, the issues include consolidation and redistricting.

“Ya’ll need to have Miss Paris in front of you and asking her about consolidation, ask her to explain consolidation to you. She can’t tell you. Ask her to tell you the difference between redistricting and reapportionment,” says Lucas.

Paris answered the challenge.

“Redistricting is of course about the lines, how the lines will be drawn. Reapportionment is about counting the people ok. Real plain and simple. Nothing rocket scientist about it.”

The back and forth could go on and on, but at this point the goal of each candidate is reaching voters.

“The people need to know, If you are representing people they need to know what your stance is. They need to know that you have an understanding of what you’re dealing with,” says Lucas.

For Paris that means spanning District 26.

“We are in full drive. We are going to get in touch with as many people as we can to ensure a proper turnout.”

Win or lose, they’ll meet face-to-face, on the ballot.The run-off elections are next Tuesday, August 16th.
