Lucas Cries Foul Over GOP Lawmaker “Changes” to Consolidation Process
MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – A Macon City councilwoman is crying foul over what she calls changes Republican lawmakers made last night at the Gold Dome.
Councilwoman Elaine Lucas says local GOP leaders gave permission to the consolidation transition task force to spend taxpayer money–even though they’re not elected. Lucas says this sets a dangerous precedent, and is not what voters okayed when they approved the merger.
Friday, she vowed to fight the changes.
“We will ask for a Justice Department investigation into the shenanigans going on in our Republican-led delegation,” says Lucas.
She’s running for the District 3 seat on the new Macon-Bibb Commission; she also accused Republican lawmakers of moving her opponent Danny Glover into the district so he could qualify for the race, in what she says is basically a plot to get her and others who oppose consolidation out of office.
