Low Attendance Could End GA State Fair

For the last 156 years, the Georgia State Fair has been providing entertainment for families, but funding issues could change this tradition.

According to fair president, Don Johstono, in order for the fair to continue it has to get at least 150,000 attendees.

Johstono also says the low attendance has been costly for the last few decades. “We’ve definitely had to tap into the cash reserve for the last several years. I think that’s one of the big concerns for the club members,” says Johstono.

Macon Exchange Club member, Charles Cleary, says ” The attendance has been off, and we don’t understand why. People just have gotten to the point where they are non-supportive of the fair.”

Since the fair started in 1850, it has donated around $2 million to local charities and has contributed close to $4 million to Macon’s economy.

The Georgia State Fair runs through this Sunday.
