Local Vietnam veterans take part in public recognition ceremony
MACON, Georgia (WMGT/41NBC) – It’s a long overdue public recognition for Vietnam veterans from Bibb and the surrounding counties.
Thursday afternoon, the Nathaniel Macon Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution held a special ceremony for local Vietnam veterans at Mulberry Methodist Church.
In recognition of their military service, the veterans received a certificate and lapel pin during the ceremony.
“It is never the wrong time to say thank you to a veteran, and that is especially true for so many Vietnam War veterans who were never properly thanked when they returned home,” said Georgia Department of Veterans Service Commissioner Mike Roby.
There are over 42,000 veterans who reside in Bibb and the bordering counties, and many are Vietnam veterans.
