Local Organizations Prepare To Help With Sandy Relief Efforts

MACON, Georgia (41NBC/WMGT) – We missed Hurricane Sandy’s wrath here in Middle Georgia, but we are feeling some of the effects she’s left behind and organizations are heading north to help with relief efforts.

Georgia Power is heading north. The Southern Company sent two thousand workers to help the millions of people without electricity get their power back.

At the Central Georgia Red Cross, two volunteers and an Emergency Response Vehicle drove to the impacted area to help feed and shelter evacuees. LaTravius Smith says right now, they are on standby and waiting to get the call to send more help.

“We are gearing up to sen as many as 300 mass care personnel who will perform the operations of shelter management and feeding,” Smith said.
