Local Leaders Talk About Macon/Bibb Consolidation
MACON,Georgia (41nbc/WMGT)-Now that local leaders have had a chance to review the plan to consolidate local governments in Bibb County, they’re starting to speak out about what it calls for. The consolidation bill would consolidate city and county governments in Macon and Bibb County.
City Councilman Rick Hutto says consolidation will help the city in the long run. The plan aims to reduce local government spending gradually reaching a 20-percent reduction by 2019. Bibb County Commissioner Lonzy Edwards says there are some things he likes about the bill and some things he doesn’t.
“My reaction is somewhat muted because I’m not sure this will be the final document. It hasn’t passed yet. I was listening to Representative Alien Peake, this morning, talking about some changes that will have to be made”, said Commissioner Edwards.”
There will be a county wide vote on the plan July 31st.
